In the Denver metro area, Lakewood ranks fifth in terms of population. From Union Station, this suburb offers one of the best views of the Rocky Mountain foothills. Featuring shops, restaurants, a movie theater, and pedestrian-friendly spots, Lakewood's downtown Belmar area has emerged as a popular local hangout.
Recreation areas and cultural programming are also available in Lakewood. There are more than 300 seats in the Lakewood Cultural Center's theater and gallery, and 15 historic structures and 40,000 artifacts are housed at the Lakewood Heritage Center. A dozen galleries and multiple performing arts venues make up 40 West Arts, recently named a Certified Colorado Creative District.
One of Denver's top places for outdoor activities is Lakewood, which has more than 80 maintained parks. There are plenty of playgrounds in the city, but Bear Creek Lake Park is one of the most popular. A 2,600-acre park featuring a fishing lake, bike trails, hiking trails, picnic areas, and water-ski concessions has something for everyone. Mountain lovers will love Lakewood's Hayden Park on Green Mountain for its steep terrain and scenic mountain views.
There is also something here for shoppers and golfers. A mixed-use mall called Belmar, as well as an outlet mall called Colorado Mills, are two of Lakewood's pleasant shopping centers. Additionally, there are two public golf courses in the area - Fox Hollow Golf Course and Homestead Golf Course. In the surrounding area, you will find the outdoor Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Dinosaur Ridge, and the Bandimere Speedway drag strip.
In the Lakewood 80232 area you'll find some wonderful restaurants and another popular location for families. The Kendrick Lake park offers playground areas for kids, foot trails, picnic tables with grilling areas and fishing. This 21 acre reservoir is a great place on hot summer days.
